Heatwave Relief in THESE States, Delhi Still Swelters: Full IMD Weather Forecast June 2025
Heatwave Conditions to Ease in THESE States, No Respite for Delhi Yet – Full IMD Weather Forecast

New Delhi, June 12, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that heatwave conditions gripping parts of northwest and central India are expected to subside in several states over the next few days, offering much-needed relief to residents. However, Delhi continues to face scorching temperatures with no immediate respite in sight.
Relief for Northwest and Central India
According to the latest IMD bulletin, a western disturbance approaching northwest India will bring light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, significantly reducing temperatures in states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand starting June 13. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience a temperature drop by June 14, with maximum temperatures expected to fall by 3-5°C.
The IMD attributes this relief to moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea, coupled with thunderstorm activity, which will break the prolonged dry spell. “Heatwave conditions are likely to abate in most parts of northwest India from June 13 onwards, with cloudy skies and scattered rainfall providing relief,” said Dr. Anjali Sharma, senior meteorologist at IMD.
In central India, Madhya Pradesh and parts of East Uttar Pradesh will see heatwave conditions ease by June 15, as the western disturbance’s influence extends southward. The IMD has downgraded its heatwave alerts from orange to yellow for these regions, signaling a less severe outlook.
Delhi to Endure Prolonged Heat
While neighboring states brace for cooler weather, Delhi remains under a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring past 43°C in several areas. The IMD has issued a red alert for the national capital, forecasting no significant relief until at least June 16. Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 43.8°C on June 11, with areas like Mungeshpur and Najafgarh touching 45°C.
“Delhi’s heatwave is expected to persist due to clear skies and dry westerly winds, which are preventing any immediate cooling,” Dr. Sharma explained. The minimum temperature in Delhi has also remained unusually high, hovering around 30°C, exacerbating discomfort during nighttime hours. The IMD advises residents to avoid outdoor activities between 12 PM and 4 PM, stay hydrated, and use protective clothing to mitigate heat-related risks.
Other Regions: Mixed Weather Patterns
The IMD’s extended forecast highlights diverse weather patterns across India:
- Southern States: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rainfall due to an active southwest monsoon, with warnings for potential waterlogging in low-lying areas.
- Northeast India: Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh will continue to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, raising concerns about landslides in hilly regions.
- Eastern India: Bihar and Jharkhand may see isolated thunderstorms, but heatwave conditions could persist in pockets until June 15.
Health and Safety Advisory
With heatwave-related illnesses on the rise, the IMD has urged vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers, to take precautions. Symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, nausea, and muscle cramps, should be addressed immediately by moving to a cooler environment and rehydrating.
Local authorities in affected states have been directed to set up cooling centers and ensure adequate water supply. In Delhi, the municipal corporation has deployed water sprinklers to combat dust pollution, which worsens during heatwaves.
Looking Ahead
The IMD’s long-range forecast indicates that northwest India may experience normal to above-normal rainfall in the latter half of June, potentially ending the heatwave season earlier than anticipated. However, Delhi residents will need to endure a few more days of extreme heat before relief arrives.
