Telangana Factory Blast (Deceased Workers’ Families Receive ₹1 Lakh Immediate Relief)

Hyderabad, July 1, 2025 — A massive explosion at a pharmaceutical facility in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, killed several lives and injured countless people. The tragic incident, which occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Sigachi Industries Pvt. Ltd., has prompted swift action from the Telangana state government to support the affected families.
As an immediate relief measure, the government has announced financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for the families of each deceased worker and ₹50,000 for those injured in the blast. This aid aims to address urgent needs, with officials emphasizing that it is separate from long-term compensation plans. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has further directed authorities to ensure comprehensive support, including medical care for the injured and educational assistance for the children of the deceased, such as admissions to government residential schools.
The explosion, suspected to have originated in the factory’s drying unit due to a pressure buildup, has led to a significant loss of life, with rescue operations still underway to locate missing workers. The state has constituted a high-level committee, chaired by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, to examine the cause of the explosion and recommend stronger safety standards for industrial establishments throughout Telangana. Preliminary reports suggest that lapses in safety compliance may have contributed to the disaster.
Chief Minister Reddy, accompanied by Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha and other officials, visited the blast site and a hospital in Patancheru to meet with victims and their families. “This is a heart-wrenching tragedy, and we are committed to ensuring justice and preventing such incidents in the future,” Reddy said during his visit. He also called for accountability from the factory management and urged for regular safety audits in all industrial facilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for each slain worker and ₹50,000 for the injured. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local fire services, are working tirelessly, though efforts are being hampered by ongoing rain and debris at the site.
The factory, which produces active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients, has suspended operations for an estimated 90 days to assess and repair damage. Workers at the facility hailed from various states, including Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, highlighting the diverse workforce affected by this tragedy.
